- Want consistency even when traveling in-state
What is online therapy (telehealth)?
Online therapy—also called telehealth or virtual therapy—is counseling delivered over a secure video platform instead of in a physical office. You and your therapist meet face to face on screen, in real time, just as you would in person.
At EK Mental Health Counseling, our online therapy sessions are grounded in the same evidence-based approaches we use in the office, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and more.
As long as you’re physically located in New York or Florida at the time of session, you can meet with a therapist licensed in your state—whether you’re at home, in a parked car, or another private spot.
Benefits of online therapy
- Skip commute time and traffic
- Fit sessions around work, childcare, and daily life
- Access specialized OCD and anxiety care from more areas
- Stay consistent even during weather issues or mild illness
- Feel more comfortable sharing from your own environment
If technology feels intimidating, we’ll walk you through the steps. Many clients find that after a session or two, telehealth feels just as natural as in-person therapy.
How online therapy works with EK Mental Health Counseling
We aim to make starting online therapy as straightforward as possible—no complicated portals or extra hoops if we can help it. You’ll get clear instructions and a secure link before each session.
The goal is for you to spend your energy on the work you’re doing in therapy, not on navigating the tech.
1. Schedule your telehealth session
Reach out through our contact form or by phone. We’ll help match you with a therapist licensed in New York or Florida who fits your needs and preferences.
2. Receive your secure video link
Before each appointment, you’ll get a link to a secure video session. No special software needed—just a device with internet, camera, and microphone.
3. Join from a private space
On the day of your telehealth session, find a spot where you can speak freely (many people use a bedroom, office, or parked car) and click the link to join.
4. Work together just like in person
You and your therapist will talk, build skills, and sometimes even do exposure exercises or other structured work—just as you would in an office setting.
What issues can be treated through online therapy?
Many of the same concerns we treat in person can be addressed through secure telehealth sessions—especially anxiety and OCD-related conditions, where practicing skills in real-life settings can be a major advantage.
“How do I know if online therapy is right for me?”
Online therapy can be a great fit if you want flexible, accessible care and you have a reasonably private space and internet connection. Many clients actually find it easier to open up from home than in an office.
That said, telehealth isn’t appropriate for every situation. If we think you’d be better served by in-person support or a higher level of care, we’ll be honest about that and help you explore options.
Common questions about telehealth
- Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
- Research suggests that for many concerns—especially anxiety, OCD, and depression— telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy when done consistently.
- What kind of device or internet do I need?
- Most clients use a smartphone, tablet, or laptop with Wi-Fi or a stable data connection. We’ll give you guidance if you’re unsure what will work best.
- Is online therapy private and secure?
- We use a secure video platform and take privacy seriously. Choosing a private space on your end (using headphones, closing doors, white noise, etc.) also helps keep sessions confidential.
